Apologies for poor quality but this was taken on my phone in poor light. This spider greeted me one morning in the kitchen in Oz. It's body was 2 inches in length and this image doesn't really give you an idea of size - the object poking in was a pelmet so you might get an idea of scale from that.

You could have put a saddle on it and entered the Grand National! It was a big bugger!

Hi Ann - I hope you don't think I am being presumptuous here but this is my effort at B n W. Just did it because I wanted to perhaps help you address your caution in the world of b n w! I don't know how succesful I will be with my conversion here though! I like darker conversions of landscapes because they add mood which I think is in many ways the point of a b n w landscape shot.

I rotated crop adjusted midtones slightly to enhance the darker colours - just an exercise in shape and form and being even more abstract. Hope you don't mind.

Hi Rosemary - hope you don't mind I was curious to see how it looked. Converted to b n w and increased the blue to bring out the sky.

HI Andrew, I hope you don't mind me doing this, though this is not a workshop to try to teach or advise it was a happy accident. I was using my phone to look on TE and as I opened it the last image I had looked at was this one and it opened with the crop I have done in keep with my phone screen ratio. I thought it was a good crop because whilst your crop and note explain about the Boulder street performers, this crop leaves that "story" aside but has something more intimate about it. I called the image the last request because in some ways it's like they are giving a dying man his last request - a cigarette! On the other hand it could be their last request to him as a pianist though you couldn't tell that from this crop! Hope you don't find the fact that I did this too presumptious or annoying in any way. I just liked this crop which I happened upon coz of my crazy not so smart phone! Cheers, Mike

I converted to black and white and sharpened the image - using unsharp mask in CS4 - amount 20% - radius 50 pixels and threshold 0.

I think it adds a little more atmosphere with a full conversion to black and white. Hope you don't mind me trying this. Feel free to comment.
