The Esala Perahera is held annually in Kandy to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Its origins go back to the 4th C, but the Perahera, as we know it today, dates from 1775.

It is one of Asia's most magnificent festivals with up to a 100 elephants and more than a million spectators. A much smaller Perahera is organized in Arundhapura.
